Meet some of Choices’ amazing Volunteers

Choices is supported by an amazing team of volunteers - community and prison counsellors, boutique team and befrienders. They help make all we do possible and we are so thankful for their support.

To give you a glimpse into the impact they make, a few of our dedicated volunteers have kindly agreed to share their personal stories and experiences with us.

Thank you, Lizzie, Carlotta, Haley, and everyone else who generously gives their time to volunteer for Choices.

Lizzie

I’m Lizzie, mum to two girls and curate at St Luke’s Kentish Town. I have been involved in Choices for over 4 years because I am passionate that women going through pregnancy crisis don’t have to face it alone, and that the church might be part of the answer. I find volunteering as both a trustee and a befriender a real privilege. I regularly feel like I have so little to give in both time and expertise but have found that the little I can offer is really appreciated. I really value the relationships that are formed through volunteering and know that I have learnt a lot through giving my time to Choices.

Carlotta

Hello my name is Carlotta and I have been helping Marianne on a Wednesday morning at the Choices Boutique for roughly 4 months now. I have been volunteering in other places for some time but the opportunity to do something so closely associated with the church I follow is so important to me! I met the most special woman, Erykah, who is also volunteering at the Boutique, on the first day I started and have since found a community of women who share my love for God. Being able to feel like I have made a difference at the Boutique every week has been such a rewarding feeling, especially when Erykah and I can see all the newborn clothes in tidy order (basically impossible) and we notice how this support helps appointments run more smoothly and stress-free! Dedicating a couple of hours a week has felt far from a chore, I love the cause and hope to continue in this journey for a long time coming.

Haley, a Choices Volunteer

Haley

Hello! My name is Haley and I’m a befriender. I’ve just finished my first year of training to be a counsellor. I was excited when I heard about Choices and the befriending programme. Becoming a befriender felt like a lovely way to use some of the skills I’m learning - while hopefully being an encouragement to a mother! It's been a delight to volunteer with Choices and I'm so grateful for the opportunity.
