FAQs
What impact do your services have?
In 2024, 100% of clients who gave feedback on pregnancy loss or perinatal support felt more able to understand their emotions and face future challenges after receiving counselling. We also delivered over 493 sessions to 43 women struggling post-termination, post-miscarraige and in the perinatal period, and in prison, we saw anxiety and depression levels halve following our counselling programme. Our work is helping women feel less alone, more resilient, and more hopeful about their future.
What is Choices’ position on abortion?
Choices exists to offer respectful and compassionate care for women (and their partners) facing unplanned pregnancy, regardless of the decision they make. Our role is not to direct or influence; instead, we offer sessions with trained counsellors to listen, support, and enable women to make their own informed decisions in a safe, non-judgemental space.
Are you pro-life?
Choices does not use labels like “pro-life” or “pro-choice” as we believe such terms can reduce a deeply sensitive and personal experience to a polarised debate. We respect each woman’s legal right to choose and create a space where she can explore her own values and feelings without pressure. One in seven women faces reproductive coercion in this country. Our aim is to enable truly informed decisions, free from judgement or coercion, and grounded in dignity and care.
How do you ensure Choices provides impartial advice to women facing abortion?
All of our counselling practitioners are either fully trained or highly supervised trainees. As organisational members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), we are committed to upholding the highest professional standards for our clients.
Furthermore, our Christian faith calls us to love unconditionally, which we believe includes respecting every person’s story and choices. We are open about who we are, but we never impose our faith or personal views on our clients. All support is non-directive and professionally delivered, with a focus on helping clients feel seen and not alone.
Why do you work in prisons?
Grief from pregnancy and child loss is a major issue for many women in prison, yet few can access support. Our counsellors work in women’s prisons across London to offer trauma-informed care to those navigating loss or separation. We believe healing should be possible wherever someone is, and we go to them when they cannot come to us.
Can you tell me about your Board / Senior Management diversity?
We are committed to increasing diversity across our board, leadership, and staff teams. With each vacancy, we actively seek a wide pool of candidates, and we recently achieved a trauma-informed quality mark that includes deeper work on diversity and inclusion.
What information does Choices retain about its supporters and how do you use details?
We comply fully with UK data protection legislation and undergo annual audits by chartered accountants. We are committed to protecting supporter data and follow GDPR guidance at all times.
With a supporter’s consent, we may use their data to communicate updates, share stories, and to request financial or non-financial support.
