Community & Prison Counselling Placement Volunteers

Are you a trainee or qualified counsellor looking for meaningful client work?

Join Choices, a counselling charity supporting individuals through pregnancy, loss and parenting crises.

We have two placement opportunities:
- Prison Counselling Service, working in HMPs Bronzefield, Downview and Send
- Community Counselling Service, working both online and from our offices on Caledonian Road (Islington).

We are currently recruiting placement counsellors in both our counselling services to provide 1:1 support to clients facing:

  • Mental health challenges during pregnancy and after birth

  • Pregnancy loss (including abortion, miscarriage, or stillbirth)

  • Child separation and adoption

What we offer:

  • Free in-house induction and specialist training

  • Monthly online group supervision at no cost

  • Experience across a range of client issues and referral pathways

  • A warm and supportive counselling team

We ask for a commitment of 2–3 client hours per week (half-day or full-day for prison placements). In the Community Counselling Service we cannot guarantee in person client work.

Boutique Volunteers

Many parents and caregivers struggle to afford baby and children’s clothes and equipment. Boutique supports clients struggling with parenting challenges including, isolation and relationship issues, and offers both emotional and practical assistance.

Boutique is open on Mondays for client appointments and Friday mornings to receive donations. There are a range of volunteer roles and tasks available including receiving and sorting donations, hosting and meeting clients at King’s House in King’s Cross. Each of these roles is equally vital, and we could not deliver our service without our dedicated volunteers.

Boutique Appointments Volunteer hours:
Mondays 10am - 1pm and/or 1pm - 4pm

Boutique Donations Volunteer hours:
Fridays 9.45am – 12.45pm

We ask for a minimum monthly commitment.
